Best Beaches in Rio de Janeiro
Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro
Some people visiting Brazil think that the best beach in Rio de Janeiro is Copacabana Beach. This is true in some sense, as the beach is has been popular with visitors for decades and is the center of the city’s big New Year’s Eve festivities.
However, those that know Rio well are aware that there are some other great beaches in the city that shouldn’t be missed.
Many locals spend their time at Ipanema Beach and Leblon Beach, where the white sand sparkles and beautiful Brazilians abound. Leblon Beach is also great for children, and is one of the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro for families. Also popular are Sao Conrado Beach and Barra da Tijuca Beach, which aren’t far away.
A bit further afield, Niteroi has some great beaches with stunning views of Rio, and Recreio, Grumari, and Prainha beaches are great places for sunbathing and mixing with the locals.
When visiting, keep in mind that the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro aren’t just the beaches themselves. It also matters where you choose to sunbathe. The best sunbathing in Rio can be done at Posto 9 at Ipanema Beach and Posto 12 at Leblon Beach.
